Suspect in Rwandan Genocide Arrested in Kampala


According to news reports this morning former intelligence chief, Idelphonse Nizeyimana has been arrested in Kampala. As intelligence chief Idelphonse Nizeyimana is thought to have organised the killing of many ethnic Tutsis – He is thought to have ordered the execution of Queen Dowager Rosalie Gicanda at the beginning of the killings in Butare.

On November 27, 2000, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) issued an indictment against Nizeyimana, charging him with “genocide, or in the alternative complicity in genocide, direct and public incitement to commit genocide, and crimes against humanity.”

The BBC is reporting that he was travelling to Kenya from the Democratic Republic of Congo when he was detained. A Ugandan police spokeswoman confirmed Mr Nizeyimana had been arrested and flown to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, based in Tanzania.

    I am really scared about this issue. The Rwanda Genocide seems like a horror movie that wouldnt just end and go away. Are we supposed to believe that the hatred is past, and all these arrests will lead to justice. And then we may a ask, justice for who? We need to pray…..
