Trial Chamber V has set a new trial date for the beginning of the Kenyatta case. The trial will now commence on 12 November 2013.

The commencement of the trial had been postponed after the Trial Chamber decided on 26 April 2013 that more time for preparation should be given to the Defence.

President Kenyatta is facing charges of crimes against humanity “consisting of murder, deportation or forcible transfer, rape, persecution” as well as other inhumane acts that were allegedly committed “during the post-election violence in Kenya in 2007-2008.” He is charged as an indirect co-perpetrator.

President Kenyatta is represented by Steven Kay QC, Gillian Higgins and Ben Joyes of 9 Bedford Row International.
